Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help

In early 2020, as "COVID" reigned supreme, the spiritual leaders at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City, South Dakota quickly needed a system to continue reaching their congregation while stuck in their homes; with no previous means of streaming installed, they had to start from scratch.

Once Upon a Time...

Like all houses of worship in 2020, the Cathedral of our Lady of Perpetual Help, located in Rapid City, South Dakota, searched for solutions to reach out to those stuck in their homes. This is when they called on the expertise of Stream Dudes and their installer, KT Connections. In March 2020, Fr. Brian Christensen explained, "we were shutting down like many other people were and trying to figure out how we could continue to connect with people." The church's first attempt at streaming was an iPhone capturing the service and streaming it over WIFI, but they soon realized that as COVID restrictions continued they would need to invest in a production system that would work now and into the future.

KT Connections, the installer who had an existing relationship with the customer, was only familiar with a single type of commercial streaming system; therefore it was the only system they steered the church's leadership toward. Stream Dudes worked with the customer and installer to identify the right solution that allowed the church to meet their simple current goal (streaming Sunday service) while allowing for more extensive capabilities in the future.

The Cathedral has since become more comfortable using their system and you can find them using it everyday. This project was featured in an article published by Church Production Magazine.

“We are using it all on a daily basis now. We have Mass, every morning at 7:00 am, so we’re broadcasting to Facebook live every single day. When we do that, I don’t need anybody operating the system; I just turn on the main camera and we’re up and running. On Sundays we have our main celebration, Mass at 10:30am, and because the system is so easy to use, we now have about eight or nine people trained to produce the service using the three cameras system, particularly using camera angles and movement.”
